Spot Bitcoin ETFs Took $2.65 Billion in September Inflows

Spot Bitcoin ETFs Took $2.65 Billion in September Inflows

US spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds pulled in $2.65 billion of net inflows in September, the figure four accounts published on Thursday and Friday from SoSoValue data. Net inflow is money in minus money out, so the number is what the funds kept. August was bigger at $3.52 billion. Spot ether funds took $832.43 million over the same month, less than half the $1.85 billion they drew in August. Bitcoin traded at $86,626 as of 1 a.m. ET on Friday, up 3.1% on the day, with ether at $2,735.

The ranking claim does not add up

Every account read here attaches a superlative to the $2.65 billion, and the superlatives do not survive the accounts' own arithmetic. The Block, publishing at 1:50 a.m. EDT on Friday, called September the second-largest monthly inflow since October 2025. Blockonomi said the same thing later that morning. Both reported August 2026 at $3.52 billion in the same piece. August is larger than September, so on the figures they print, September cannot hold second place since October 2025.

The Currency Analytics went further and called it the second-biggest month on record, trailing only October 2025. That version has the same problem and a wider one. None of the four gives October 2025's own total, which is the number a reader would need to check any of this. We could not establish what definition of the ranking the accounts are working from. The total itself is consistent across all four, and headlines rounding it to $2.7 billion carry $2.65 billion in the body.

How the month filled up

The month was front-loaded in its final stretch. TokenPost, writing on 30 September, put the week ending 25 September at $2.4 billion and laid out the days behind it: $999 million on Monday, then $714.7 million, $347 million, $190.6 million and $134.5 million by Friday. That account stands alone on the weekly ladder, and the figures are its own. Cumulative net inflows since launch reached $57.6 billion on its count, with total net assets of $108.4 billion. The Monday figure matches what this desk reported when the funds logged $999 million in a single day, the largest since October 2025.

Ether fell back faster than bitcoin

The ether side halved. September's $832.43 million against August's $1.85 billion is a steeper drop than bitcoin's, and the same ranking oddity appears there: the accounts call it the second-largest month since August 2025 while printing a larger August 2026 beside it. The first day of October split the two products. Bitcoin funds took $102.7 million on 1 October while ether funds shed $55.4 million.

Dominick John, an analyst at Zeus Research, read the September flows as a floor holding.

"With the Q4 bottom seemingly established, continued ETF inflows also signal improving market sentiment," John said.

He described the pattern as a more durable recovery rather than a short-lived rebound, and said sentiment had strengthened without reaching extreme levels. The Crypto Fear and Greed Index, a sentiment gauge that runs from 0 to 100, sat at 69 on Friday on The Block's reading.

Where the figures stop

Three things are missing from every account read here. Nobody breaks the $2.65 billion down by issuer, so which funds took the money is unknown. Nobody publishes October 2025's monthly total, which leaves the ranking claims unchecked. And nobody gives total bitcoin ETF assets under management as of 1 October, though TokenPost's $108.4 billion stands for the week before. Flow data also says nothing about why money arrived; Citi's revision of its 12-month bitcoin target to $113,000 on Thursday rested on a different set of inputs. October's first full week is the next test of whether the September pace holds.
