Covenants and a Possible UASF in 2025

🔵Bitcoin is preparing for potential changes in 2025 with the introduction of a covenant system. One key proposal is BIP-119, or Check Template Verify (CTV). This innovation would enable setting conditions that restrict how BTC can be spent, such as sending coins only to predetermined addresses.

🔵Covenants could enhance security and expand network functionality, but they remain controversial due to concerns about reduced fungibility of BTC and potential vulnerabilities.

🔵There is ongoing discussion about activating these changes via a UASF (User-Activated Soft Fork), bypassing miner involvement. This approach echoes the events of 2017 surrounding SegWit. However, the likelihood of community division in 2025 is considered low, given the ecosystem’s maturity.
