CZ Says a $1 Million Bitcoin Will Not Take 25 Years to Arrive

Changpeng Zhao told a Hong Kong audience that bitcoin will reach $1 million, and that the wait will be nothing like a quarter of a century. The Binance founder, who goes by CZ, spoke at Bitcoin Asia at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 27 August. A 25-year horizon was put to him during the session. He rejected it. Price, he argued, is the easy part of the problem.
"I actually don't think we need 25 years. I think it's gonna happen much quicker," Zhao said, in the wording BeInCrypto published that day.
The same line, two transcripts
BeInCrypto carried the remark on 27 August, hours after the session ended. CryptoPotato published its own account two days later and rendered the line as "I don't think we need 25 years. I think it's gonna happen much quicker." The substance matches. The wording does not, and we could not establish which transcript is the verbatim one. CryptoPotato also carried a second line from the same session, which it gave as "I think for Bitcoin to hit $1,000,000 would be a good thing. And it'll happen." Clips of the exchange were still moving through social feeds in mid-September.
Utility before price
The number was not the argument. Zhao put two conditions in front of it, both about use rather than momentum: bitcoin settling payments at scale, and bitcoin held inside retirement and pension money. On his account the plumbing for pension exposure should be in place within about a decade, BeInCrypto reported. He named no date for the $1 million level itself. Neither outlet put one on him. CryptoPotato's version of the session also had him expecting large reserve portfolios to shift toward digital assets, with bitcoin more than half of any strategic crypto holding alongside Ethereum and BNB. That line appears in one report only.
The gold gap, counted two ways
Zhao said gold's market value is roughly ten times bitcoin's, and that bitcoin will pass it in time. BeInCrypto checked the claim against market data the same day and got a wider gap: about $32 trillion for gold against $1.58 trillion for bitcoin, closer to twenty times. The two counts do not reconcile, and the outlet left them side by side. At $1 million a coin bitcoin would be worth around $20 trillion on that arithmetic, still short of what gold is worth today. A conference slide reported here on 15 September put bitcoin at about 1% of the world's money, the same distance measured against a different yardstick.
Where the price sits while the forecast runs
Bitcoin traded at $76,542 on 17 September with a market value near $1.54 trillion, CoinGecko's page showed at the time of writing. CryptoPotato's late-August account put the market lower through that month, with closes below $65,000 on 18 August and below $79,000 on 28 August, and it flagged the 365-day moving average around $83,000 as the level traders were watching. Those figures come from that single report. This is not the first time his read of the cycle has landed on a quiet tape, and the last one was taken as a signal within hours.
The testable part of what Zhao said is not the price. It is the decade he gave for pension infrastructure, and the payment volume he says has to come first. Both can be measured long before $1 million can.
