The South Korean company allegedly found an unusual way to settle a court ruling for compensation. Previously, Samsung was ordered to pay a $1 billion fine to American company Apple Inc. for violating patents related to technology and design on six counts.
In California, 30 trucks loaded with 5-cent coins reportedly arrived at Apple’s office. Initially, the vehicles were not allowed in by security staff, who assumed it was a mistake. However, during a phone call, the CEO of the South Korean firm explained that the trucks had brought the ordered compensation.
It was noted that the trucks carried over 20 billion coins. Samsung’s chairman, Lee Kun-hee, supposedly gloated that it would take a lot of time to count all the coins.
“You can use them to buy drinks from vending machines for a year or melt them down for computers – I don’t care. We’ve fulfilled our obligation,” Lee Kun-hee was reportedly quoted as saying by the publication.
