According to documents filed in the U.S., Elon Musk donated approximately $1.95 billion worth of Tesla shares to charity last year.
The tech mogul has been a member of the philanthropic organization Giving Pledge since 2012, which commits billionaires to give away at least half of their wealth during their lifetime or after death.
Musk is currently the second richest person in the world, owning about 13% of Tesla shares.
Analysts have suggested that Musk may benefit from donating Tesla shares, as shares given to charitable organizations are not subject to capital gains tax and if sold, would not incur taxes on the gains.
In 2021, he donated shares worth approximately $5.7 billion.
