Hyundai Motor unveiled its first fully electric SUV, the Ioniq 5, at the Auto Expo 2023, which can travel up to 631 km on a full charge.
According to reports, the design of the Ioniq 5 was inspired by Hyundai’s first mass-produced car, the Pony.
The Ioniq 5 can charge from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes with a 350 kW fast charger, and in 21 minutes with a 150 kW DV charger. The SUV is equipped with a multi-charging system to reduce waiting time at charging stations.
Hyundai states that both ultra-fast 800V chargers and fast 400V chargers can be used. The Ioniq 5 features a high-voltage 72.6 kWh battery, six airbags, an electronic parking brake, four disc brakes, and power door locks.
According to the company, the Ioniq 5 is the first Hyundai model to be produced with a dedicated electric battery (BEV) and the global Electric Modular Platform. The company also added that the electric vehicle offers a high ground clearance of 163 mm. The SUV comes equipped with the Hyundai SmartSense system for driver assistance, and if any issues are detected, the Ioniq 5 will sound an alert and display a warning message on the instrument panel.
Unsoo Kim, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India, said: “The Ioniq 5 represents our transition to the mobility of the future with a fundamental embodiment of smart technologies, innovation, and sustainability. The Ioniq 5 will pave the way for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles and strengthen customer trust in innovative electric vehicles.”
