Ring Showcases Home Security Drone

The Always Home Cam made its debut flight at CES 2023.

In late 2020, Ring introduced a conceptual device for home use. The Always Home Cam is a mini drone designed to monitor homes in the owner’s absence. At CES 2023, the company demonstrated the drone in flight for the first time. However, its exact price and release date remain undisclosed.

The device resembles a kitchen gadget more than a security drone. It is slightly larger than it appeared in the initial videos released by Ring but still does not look like a typical drone, although it certainly sounds like one.

The Ring team explained how the drone will function when it launches. For example, when stationed on the first floor of a home, users must manually set flight paths by walking specific routes while ensuring the camera is unobstructed. Multiple routes and waypoints can be programmed, enabling quick checks such as ensuring the back door is closed or the stove is turned off. If something suspicious is noticed, the drone’s flight can be paused, and the camera can be rotated to survey the surroundings.

The drone will be controlled via the existing Ring app. However, the prototype demonstration does not necessarily indicate that the drone will be available for purchase anytime soon.
