Expectations for PlayStation 5 in 2023

It has been three years since the release of Sony’s PlayStation 5, and fans are eagerly awaiting the launch of the PlayStation 5 Pro.

In an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of SIE Platform Experience, discussed the company’s plans. Nishino hinted at the possibility of a platform update. He mentioned that 2022 had been quite successful in terms of overall sales. Therefore, they hope to maintain the same momentum in the upcoming year.

“By the end of the 2022 fiscal year, total sales will exceed 37 million units, and we believe this will be a very important time for the platform. I hope you will look forward to the next year (2023),” he stated.

As for the upcoming PlayStation 5, Famitsu reported that the console will feature a detachable disc drive that connects to the PlayStation 5 via an additional USB-C port on the back. This model is expected to replace all previous versions of the console.

Microsoft and Sony have been fierce competitors for many years. In an effort to adapt to the latest changes and rapidly growing competition in the industry, Sony is doing everything possible to offer state-of-the-art devices and maintain its user base.
