Elon Musk Disbands Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council

Elon Musk has disbanded Twitter’s Trust and Safety Council, an advisory group made up of independent citizens from human rights and other organizations, which was created in 2016 to address issues such as hate speech, child exploitation, suicides, and other concerns on the platform.

A meeting with Twitter representatives was scheduled for Monday evening, December 12, but Twitter sent an email about the disbanding of the council just before the meeting was set to begin, according to several participants.

Council members anonymously provided a screenshot of the email to the Associated Press.

“Our work to make Twitter a safer and more informative space will continue to move forward more actively than ever, and we will continue to welcome your ideas on how to achieve this goal,” read the email, signed “Twitter.”
