Nike NFT Sneakers “Cryptokicks” Sold for $130,000

In December, Nike announced its acquisition of the NFT studio RTFKT (“artifact”) and invested $11 million in its first virtual sneaker collection.

Sneakers are a collectible item, so it’s not surprising that rare models can fetch huge prices. Limited-edition Yeezys often sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and historically significant sneakers, like those worn by Michael Jordan during iconic games, frequently appear at auctions, sometimes selling for millions of dollars. However, a recent sneaker sale may go down in history as one of the most unusual footwear purchases: an unknown buyer acquired a pair of Nike NFT sneakers for $130,000.

The pair is part of the Nike Dunk Genesis Cryptokicks collection, consisting of 20,000 NFTs, released by Nike in collaboration with RTFKT. These NFT sneakers are designed in colors created by the famous artist Takashi Murakami and are available in only 98 units, which will undoubtedly attract collectors. Since their launch, the price of sneakers in this collection has ranged from $5,000 to $9,000 (1.75 to 3 Ether).
