Six More Issuers Object to OKXICE Stock Tokens, Taking It to 22

Six More Issuers Object to OKXICE Stock Tokens, Taking It to 22

Six more US-listed companies have told OKXICE it may not put their shares on chain. The refusals appear in an updated public notice the venue filed on Friday, taking the running total to 22. Reuters reviewed the document, and the outlets that carried it over Friday and Saturday all trace the count to that report. The notice gives no reasons. OKXICE is the joint venture of the OKX exchange and Intercontinental Exchange, owner of the New York Stock Exchange, and it has been collecting objections since the start of the month.

The six, and who will name them

Who the newcomers are depends on the account. CoinDesk, filing on Saturday morning, names all six: Cisco, Wells Fargo, Marvell Technology, Arm Holdings, Intuit and Moderna. Cointelegraph, The Crypto Times, CoinMarketCap and Bloomingbit name three of them, Wells Fargo, Arm and Intuit, and leave the others out. The declines to comment do not line up either. Cointelegraph has spokespeople for Wells Fargo and Arm declining, with Intuit not responding in time; The Crypto Times has Wells Fargo and Intuit declining. Neither confirms the other.

Nineteen names for twenty-two objections

The total itself is not in dispute. Every account read here puts it at 22, with 16 of those companies listed on Nasdaq and six on the NYSE. The names do not reach it. The Crypto Times works its own arithmetic and lands short, nine earlier objectors plus six new ones making 15, and it flags the gap without closing it. Counting every name these five accounts produce gets further and still falls shy. Nine came in the venue's earlier notice, where Broadcom, Verizon and UnitedHealth Group were among the first nine issuers to object. Four more were reported on 19 October: Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs and McDonald's, though only CoinDesk names the last two. Friday's six bring it to nineteen. Three objectors have no public name attached, and nobody read here supplies one.

Sixty-two or sixty-three

How many companies the venture wanted in the first place is unsettled too. CoinDesk says its original proposed list covered 62. Cointelegraph, CoinMarketCap, Bloomingbit and The Crypto Times all say 63. The two figures do not reconcile and no account read here addresses the difference. CoinDesk alone spells out why the list size matters. Cisco, Moderna, Intuit and Marvell were on the original roster, while Wells Fargo and Arm were not, so the 22 refusals cannot be read as 22 tickers struck off one list. Nasdaq had told issuers in September to think twice.

"Given the risks we believe issuers must be cautious about their participation," Nasdaq's guidance said.

Cointelegraph carries the same guidance and adds a line about timing: the consequences for liquidity, price discovery and long-term shareholder value "may not become apparent until well after the experiment is underway."

What an objection actually blocks

The consent right comes from an SEC order dated 17 September, which handed a qualifying tokenized securities venue a five-year exemption from registering as an exchange if it trades tokenized stock through automated market makers, the pooled contracts that quote prices from a formula instead of matching one buyer to one seller. A venue must notify an issuer first. CoinDesk puts that window at 30 days and is the only account to give a figure; the rest say only that notice comes in advance. An objection stops that one venue listing that one company's token. It is not a vote against tokenization, and none of the 22 has said anything about the practice at large. The venue plans to run Uniswap liquidity pools on OKX's XLayer chain, settled in stablecoins, on CoinDesk's account and no other.

OKXICE's co-chairman told reporters on Monday that companies would wait and see how the model performs before volunteering, and he called the framework a sandbox. He told Cointelegraph on Tuesday that he expected more objections, which Friday's notice delivered. Neither OKX nor ICE has commented on the six. The venue has no date for trading, and the caps on symbols and volume that came with the exemption have still not been published with numbers attached.
