Ether ETFs Lose $320M in a Week and Outpace Bitcoin's $228M

More money left US spot ether exchange-traded funds than bitcoin ones last week, a reversal of the usual order. Ether products gave up $320.1 million over the five sessions to 16 October against $228.4 million out of bitcoin products, on Farside Investors data compiled by crypto.news early Saturday. Across five fund categories the week came to $610.7 million of net outflows, down from about $1.29 billion the week before. Every category finished negative. Only Tuesday took money in.

One fund did most of the ether selling

BlackRock's ETHA accounted for $299 million of the ether total, about 93.4% of it. Fidelity's FETH was the only ether fund with money coming in, at $10.5 million. Crypto Briefing, filing before dawn on Saturday, rounds the same week to approximately $320 million for ether and approximately $228 million for bitcoin, and says ETHA often carries 80% or more of the category's redemptions. The concentration matters: when one fund is nine-tenths of the flow, a category figure is close to a single desk's week.

Bitcoin's week was heavier at the start

Bitcoin funds lost $165.4 million through BlackRock's IBIT and $60.2 million through Fidelity's FBTC. Morgan Stanley's MSBT took in $6.7 million and Bitwise's BITB $2.2 million. Wednesday did the damage at $261.4 million out, and Tuesday was the week's one green session at $175.7 million in. Crypto Briefing puts the slowdown at 66% against the prior week, citing The Defiant, and the arithmetic on the Farside numbers agrees, because $228.4 million against $678.9 million is a fall of 66.4%.

The prior week is where two providers part company. This desk reported it a week ago, from The Block's reading of SoSoValue, as $681.1 million out of bitcoin funds and $542.1 million out of ether funds. Farside has $678.9 million and $542.2 million. Neither account addresses the other, and the two pairs do not reconcile.

Friday, twice over

Friday's bitcoin number is the one to be careful with. SoSoValue data puts it at $82.39 million out, with IBIT losing $71.78 million, FBTC $10.61 million and the other ten funds flat, and CryptoTicker and The Crypto Times both carry it that way. Crypto Briefing runs the same $82.39 million in its own headline, then refers to an alternative tally as low as $10.6 million with FBTC leading the redemptions. It does not name the provider behind that tally, and we could not establish which one it is. Ether's Friday is less contested, at $69.68 million out, all of it from ETHA and a third consecutive day of redemptions. The two sides came to $152.07 million on the day.

Away from the two big categories the direction was the same. Solana funds lost $25.5 million and were negative in every session, with Bitwise's BSOL at $18.8 million of that. Grayscale's Zcash fund shed $19.2 million, and the three Hyperliquid funds $17.5 million between them. VanEck also withdrew its proposed Lido staked-ether ETF registration in a 14 October filing, which crypto.news flags as separate from the week's flow figures; no securities had been issued under it.

The stock of assets has barely moved

Redemptions of this size have not dented the base. Bitcoin ETFs show cumulative net inflows of $56.88 billion on SoSoValue's count, with total net assets of $104.29 billion, or 6.35% of bitcoin's market capitalization. Crypto Briefing gives those same assets as about $105 billion to $106 billion, and the two readings do not reconcile. Ether funds carry $12.94 billion of cumulative net inflows against $14.95 billion of net assets.

One wider figure sits outside all of it. CoinShares counted $434 million of global digital asset product withdrawals on 16 October, on a different dataset and a different coverage period, and tied the move to shifting rate expectations after the US inflation and retail sales prints. That is not the same universe as the $152.07 million US daily figure, and the two cannot be added together. Ether's redemption run has been going since late September. Whether it breaks before the stock of assets does is what the coming week settles.
