What Is BscScan and How to Use It?

BscScan is the free website that shows everything happening on BNB Chain, the network behind BNB and thousands of BEP-20 tokens. It is built by the team behind Etherscan and works the same way: paste an address, a token name or a transaction code into the search box, and the record comes back in a second. If you have ever used Etherscan, you already know how to use BscScan.

What can you actually look up?

Three things cover most of what people need. A transaction, to see whether a transfer succeeded and what the fee was, paid in BNB. An address, to see a wallet's balance, its tokens and its full history. And a token, which is where BscScan earns its keep, because the token page carries tabs for transfers, holders and the contract itself.

Why does the holders tab matter so much?

Because BNB Chain is cheap to build on, anyone can launch a token in an afternoon, and plenty do so purely to take other people's money. The holders tab lists the biggest wallets and what share of the supply each one controls. If two or three addresses hold most of a token, those two or three people can sell into everyone else at any moment. Think of it as reading who owns the shares before buying into a company you have never heard of.

How do you check a contract before you trust it?

Open the token's Contract tab. A green tick means the code was verified - published in readable form so anyone can check what it does. No tick means nobody outside the team can see what the code does, which is a reason to stop. Verified code is not a guarantee of honesty, only of visibility, but an unverified contract asking for your money is a warning on its own.

One habit worth keeping: before buying any small token, spend thirty seconds on its BscScan page looking at the creation date and the holders tab. Most rug pulls fail that check. Next, read how to use Etherscan to check transactions and how to read a block explorer.
