Support and Resistance Levels: How to Draw and Trade Them

Support and resistance levels are prices where a chart keeps stopping. Support is the floor the falls keep landing on; resistance is the ceiling the rallies keep hitting. Drawing them means marking those prices as bands on the chart. Trading them means waiting for price to come back and watching what it does there, instead of guessing somewhere in the middle.

How do you draw them?

Open a daily Bitcoin chart and look for prices the market has turned at twice or more. Mark each one as a band rather than a hairline, because the market never turns at exactly the same number twice. Three to five bands per coin is plenty. Round numbers earn a band of their own - $100,000 on Bitcoin, $4,000 on Ethereum - simply because that is where people park their orders.

How do you trade a level?

The patient version: wait for price to reach the band, then watch. A long wick that pokes into support and snaps back out is the market rejecting lower prices, and that rejection is the signal - not the arrival. Traders who buy the instant price touches a line get run over constantly, because touching proves nothing. Put the stop just beyond the far side of the band, so that if the level truly fails you are out cheaply, and size the trade so being wrong costs a small, known amount.

What happens when a level breaks?

Often it changes sides. Resistance that finally gives way tends to act as support on the way back down, because the people who sold there now have a reason to defend the price. That retest is one of the cleaner entries on any chart, and it is also where fake breaks get exposed: if price slices straight back through, the break was not real.

Pick one coin and mark three levels this week, then take no trade until price actually reaches one and shows you something. Writing down why each band is there, in a single sentence, will delete half of them for you. Next: how to draw the levels correctly and how to find them in the first place.
