How to Use a Blockchain Explorer

A blockchain explorer is a free search engine for a blockchain, and learning to use one takes about a minute. You paste in a transaction ID, an address or a block number, and the site shows you exactly what the network recorded: whether the payment went through, how many confirmations it has, what it cost, and where it landed. When an exchange says your withdrawal was sent and your wallet shows nothing, this is how you find out who is right.

Which explorer do you need?

Each network has its own, because each keeps its own record. Etherscan for Ethereum, Tronscan for Tron, Solscan for Solana, BscScan for BNB Chain, and mempool.space or blockchain.com for Bitcoin. Using the wrong one is the most common beginner confusion: a Tron transaction will never appear on Etherscan, however many times you refresh.

How do you look up your own transfer?

Find the transaction ID — also called the TxID or hash, a long string of letters and numbers — in the withdrawal history of your exchange or in your wallet's activity list. Copy it, open the explorer for that network, and paste it into the search box. Most wallets and exchanges also offer a direct link that opens the right explorer for you, which removes the guesswork.

What do the results mean?

Three fields matter. Status says success, failed or pending: success means the network has accepted it and the exchange's job is done. Confirmations counts how many blocks have been built on top; a handful is usually enough for a receiver to credit you. To is the destination address — compare it character by character with the address you meant to use. You will also see the fee and the exact time. If the status is pending, the transaction is queued and usually just needs more time or a higher fee.
