Best Bitcoin ETF in 2026: Compare All the Funds

There are now about a dozen US spot bitcoin ETFs, and the first thing to understand is that they all do the same job: each one holds real bitcoin and gives you a share that tracks it. None of them is a different bet on bitcoin. So comparing them comes down to boring, measurable things - the annual fee, how big and easily traded the fund is, and who stores the coins.

What do all these funds have in common?

They buy and hold bitcoin, they trade on a normal stock exchange during market hours, and they let you own bitcoin exposure without a wallet or a seed phrase. That last part is the whole appeal, and the whole trade-off: there is no key to lose, but you also cannot send the coins anywhere or use them on Uniswap. An ETF share is a claim on bitcoin, not bitcoin.

Where do they actually differ?

Chiefly on fee, charged as a percentage of your holding each year:

  • Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust (BTC) - 0.15%, the cheapest of the group.
  • Bitwise (BITB) and VanEck (HODL) - 0.20%.
  • ARK 21Shares (ARKB) - 0.21%.
  • BlackRock (IBIT) and Fidelity (FBTC) - 0.25%, and between them they hold most of the money in the category.
  • Grayscale's original trust (GBTC) - 1.50%, left over from its pre-ETF days.

Why would anyone pay six times the fee?

Inertia, mostly. GBTC existed years before the others and many holders sit on gains they do not want to realise by switching. Every launch fee waiver in the category has now expired, so the numbers above are what you pay. On $10,000 held for a year, 0.15% costs $15 and 1.50% costs $150 - the same bitcoin, a decade of that gap compounding differently.

Check the issuer's own page for the current fee before you buy, since these change, and ignore anything comparing past performance between funds - they hold the same asset, so differences come from fees and timing. Next: IBIT vs FBTC and IBIT, FBTC or ARKB.
