Switchboard Oracle Ends Support September 25, Points Users to Pyth

Switchboard Oracle Ends Support September 25, Points Users to Pyth

Switchboard, an oracle network that feeds outside prices to smart contracts on Solana and other chains, ends all support on Friday, 25 September. The Switchboard Foundation announced the shutdown on Saturday, 19 September, and said operations stopped at once. Protocols still reading its feeds were told to migrate immediately to Pyth or RedStone. Crypto Briefing, ChainCatcher, Solana Compass and Phemex all reported the same dates and the same two alternatives. As of Monday that leaves four days.

Why the foundation says it quit

The announcement gave three causes, and every account read here lists the same ones.

"The widespread adoption of AI technology has reduced the pricing power of oracles, the bear market has compressed new chain budgets, and the trend of direct collaboration between institutions like Hyperliquid and S&P has weakened the value proposition of third-party oracles," the announcement said, in ChainCatcher's English rendering.

Solana Compass words the first point differently. In its account, AI has lowered the cost of a protocol building its own oracle. The foundation also added two clarifications, according to a summary on OKX. The shutdown does not mean immediate liquidation, and recommending Pyth does not mean anyone's migration is finished.

Who has to move

An oracle is what tells a lending market what its collateral is worth, so a feed that stops updating has to be replaced before it goes stale. Solana Compass names Kamino, Jito, MarginFi and Drift among the affected Solana protocols. It puts Switchboard's reach at 11 chains and more than 550 feeds across 53 programs. Those details come from that one outlet. We found no migration notices from those protocols in this sweep. Crypto Briefing reports that Switchboard had already stopped serving the Move-based chains Aptos, Sui, IOTA and Movement around the end of August, another claim with a single source. Oracle faults have been costly this month, most recently in a $3.5 million exploit that halted Nostra on Starknet.

The money behind it

Switchboard raised a $7.5 million Series A in May 2024, led by Tribe Capital and RockawayX with the Solana Foundation, Aptos and StarkWare taking part, per Solana Compass. OKX's summary and a KuCoin flash report give the same round size. Solana Compass alone puts total funding at $11.2 million. None of the accounts gives revenue or the value its feeds secured.

Not the only exit this week

Linera, a Layer 1 backed by a16z, shut down on 19 September after its Sonar token sale raised $848,271 against a $1.5 million minimum, The Crypto Times reported. The money from 617 buyers was refunded. The team said the decision "comes down to funding." Universal, a cross-chain asset protocol, said on 20 September it will close on 17 November and gave users 60 days to redeem. Its team wrote that adoption "has not reached the level needed to sustain the protocol over the long term." Router Protocol said earlier this month it would wind down by 30 September, and in August two chains hit the kill switch on the same day. Crypto Briefing counts more than 260 projects shut in 2026, a figure no other account repeats.

After Friday the foundation offers no support at all. How many contracts were still reading Switchboard feeds on Monday is not public. No account read here gives a count, and the foundation has not published one.
