Bitcoin Touches $80,000, Its Highest Print in More Than Three Months

25 Aug 2026by CryptoJazz Admin1 min read4 views

Bitcoin cleared $80,000 on Tuesday. crypto.news put the price at $80,701, up 4.97% on the day, with an intraday high above $81,000. The Cryptonomist, publishing the same morning, gave $80,894 as both the live price and the session high, and Bloomberg's headline called the level a three-month high. TradingKey used that framing too, after a move it measured at more than 3%. Four snapshots reached this desk on Tuesday and they do not agree on the price.

Four prints, one of them behind

The Sunday Guardian's Tuesday piece, timestamped 01:32 IST, is the earliest of the set and the outlier. It has bitcoin between $78,000 and $79,000, a recent high near $79,463, and $80,000 still ahead as a level traders were watching. Hours separate it from the others, which accounts for part of the gap. The rest is measurement. crypto.news gives a 24-hour range of $76,860 to $81,160, wide enough to hold every figure quoted above, and the honest reading of Tuesday morning is that range and no single print.

How long the rally has run depends on who counts

crypto.news counts 28% over eight days and 25.3% over seven. CoinDesk's Monday live blog and the Sunday Guardian both say 22% on the week. CNBC, writing Monday, called the move crypto's biggest three-day rally since 2023. Those are four windows on one advance and none of them supersedes another. A fifth figure appears in one outlet only: crypto.news puts the recovery at about 38% off a July low of $57,700, worth roughly $350 billion in added market value. Nothing located corroborates it.

The short pile has four sizes

Every account credits the same engine, forced buying by traders positioned for a lower price. The tallies are where it falls apart. The Sunday Guardian says $4.3 billion of bearish positions were closed. CoinDesk counted $3 billion of shorts wiped out on 20 August, the session bitcoin cleared $72,000, and Bloomberg had called a record $2.7 billion the day before that. A Yahoo Finance markets piece describes a $1.6 billion squeeze at the same $72,000 mark. The windows differ and the definitions almost certainly do as well. We could not establish which tally, if any, covers the whole advance.

Warm positioning into resistance

The gauges read hot. The Cryptonomist's Tuesday note has the daily RSI at 84.01, well clear of the 70 line that conventionally marks an overbought market, with total crypto market value at $2.73 trillion and bitcoin dominance at 59.29%. A CoinStats digest for Monday put the Fear and Greed index at 74, seven points higher on the week, and annualised perpetual funding at 17.69% for bitcoin, with open interest up $335.83 million to $55.72 billion on the day. That digest is an aggregator and carries no second source.

The flow side is firmer. US spot bitcoin ETFs took in $1.92 billion in the week to 21 August on both the crypto.news and Sunday Guardian counts, the strongest weekly intake since October 2025 by the first of those. Ether products drew about $700 million over the same stretch. It is the same tape that bought Sunday's dip back to $77,000 without much hesitation, and the buying has not stopped since.

Above here is untested

crypto.news names $80,000 to $82,000 as the band that has to give way. The Cryptonomist's daily resistance line sits at 81,751, inside it, with the upper Bollinger band at 81,103. Tuesday's high stopped short of both. Rekt Capital, cited by crypto.news, warned about a marginal weekly close above the 50-week moving average; the quotation as carried breaks off mid-sentence, so what the analyst meant by marginal is not on the record. The weekly candle does not close until Monday.
