New MacBook Pro M1 Max vs. RTX 3070

In October 2021, Apple introduced its latest chip for the MacBook – the Pro M1 Max – to its fans.

According to experts, the energy efficiency and performance of this device reach the highest possible levels. Gamers, many of whom prefer playing on a laptop rather than a desktop computer, have taken notice of this new release. Since fall 2020, most players had been using Nvidia’s RTX 3070 graphics card, making Apple’s new offering particularly intriguing.

Currently, the M1 Max is the most powerful chip ever created under Apple’s banner. Its architecture is single-chip, and its bandwidth reaches 400 GB/s. This is almost on par with the RTX 3070, which averages a bandwidth of 448 GB/s. It’s also interesting to compare memory size: Apple’s new chip boasts a 512-bit memory interface, whereas the RTX 3070 only has 256 bits.

The M1 Max GPU operates with 32 cores and offers higher FPS performance. This can be clearly seen in the analysis of the game Shadow of the Tomb Raider. In this game, the M1 Max demonstrated 96 frames per second, outperforming the RTX 3070, which averaged 84 FPS – a 14% lower result compared to Apple’s product. Naturally, to get the most accurate test results, the same resolution and graphics settings are required.
