Mining and Energy in the Russian Far East

🔵The Russian Far East could become a new hub for cryptocurrency mining. Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev proposed generating surplus electricity to be used for mining. This would reduce the cost of maintaining reserve capacities and improve the region’s economic efficiency.

🔵According to the Ministry of Energy, the Far East has 2 GW of available capacity. The region is rich in renewable energy sources, and low electricity tariffs make it attractive for mining.

🔵In other parts of Russia, crypto mining is restricted due to energy shortages. However, Trutnev’s proposal could help address this issue: surplus energy could be directed not only to mining but also to the needs of the population and industry. Thus, mining could become a tool for stabilizing the country’s energy system.
