Instagram Post Puts Bitcoin at 2x by 2027 and Altcoins at 100x by 2029

Instagram Post Puts Bitcoin at 2x by 2027 and Altcoins at 100x by 2029

A single-slide post circulating on Instagram sets three multipliers against three years: Bitcoin 2x by 2027, Ethereum 5x by 2028, altcoins 100x by 2029. The caption closes with four words. "That's the plan," it reads, and nothing else follows. No author is named on the slide, no method is shown, and no basket is defined for the altcoin figure. Bitcoin was trading near $77,000 on 10 September, well below where it sat a year earlier.

"Bitcoin: 2x by 2027. Ethereum: 5x by 2028. Altcoins: 100x by 2029. That's the plan," the post reads.

What the multipliers come to in dollars

The arithmetic is the easy part. CoinDesk's ticker put Bitcoin at $77,062.99 at 2:19 pm Eastern on 10 September, down 1.73% on the day. Fortune's daily price report, filed at 8:30 that morning, had it at $77,838.92. Double either figure and the 2027 target lands at about $154,000 to $156,000. Set that against the $113,970.85 Fortune recorded a year earlier and the post is asking for roughly 36% above last September's price. The multiplier sounds larger than the move it describes, because it starts from a drawdown.

Ethereum's number is the more demanding of the two. CoinDesk had ETH at $2,465.30 on the afternoon of 10 September. Fortune's 8 September report put it at $2,471.99. Five times either is about $12,300. Ethereum fetched $4,306.69 a year ago on Fortune's numbers, so the 2028 target sits near three times a price the asset held as recently as last autumn. Nothing in the post explains what gets it there.

Two feeds, two market caps

Checking those prices turned up a discrepancy that has nothing to do with the post. Fortune and CoinDesk agree on Bitcoin to within about 1%, which is ordinary for two feeds sampled hours apart. Their market caps do not agree at all. Fortune put Bitcoin's capitalisation near $1.33 trillion on 10 September, while CoinDesk's page that same afternoon showed $1.55 trillion. That is a gap of roughly $220 billion on an asset the two sites price almost identically. The figures do not reconcile.

Ethereum shows the same pattern. CoinDesk listed a $300.85 billion cap on 10 September against Fortune's roughly $233 billion two days earlier, while the quoted price moved by less than $7 between them. Neither page sets out its methodology. A multiplier applied to a market-cap headline inherits whichever of those two numbers it started from.

The 100x has no basket

Altcoin is a loose term for any cryptocurrency other than Bitcoin, and that looseness is the problem with the third number. A 100x for altcoins names no index, no weighting and no rule for what happens to tokens that stop trading. CoinGecko has logged 20.2 million tokens since 2021, and even that count is disputed between trackers. Applied across a set that size, one multiplier describes nothing measurable. Applied to a survivor picked later, it describes a bet made after the fact.

The address in the corner

The slide carries the web address of The Coin Republic, a crypto news site, alongside its three lines of text. That is the only attribution the post offers. We could not find an article on that site setting out this particular sequence of targets, and the account that published the slide credits no analyst. The claim stands unverified as anything beyond a social-media post.

Institutional forecasts for the same window exist, and they are narrower. Bernstein's house view, in a note reported by Barchart, has Bitcoin reaching $150,000 to $200,000 within a year and the cycle peaking in 2027. That bracket overlaps the post's implied 2027 level closely. It is one outlet's account of one firm's note, and no date is given for it. Ethereum's 5x and the altcoin 100x have no equivalent anywhere in the research.

Bitcoin slipped below $77,000 earlier this week after US producer prices came in at 5.4%. That is the level the first deadline starts from. A little over fifteen months remain on it. The other two run to 2029.
