How to Recover Your BEP-20 Tokens From Non-BSC-Compatible Wallets

To recover BEP-20 tokens from a wallet that does not support BNB Smart Chain, you do not move the tokens - you move the key. The same address works on every chain that copies Ethereum's format, so importing your recovery phrase into a wallet that does speak BNB Smart Chain, such as MetaMask or Trust Wallet, makes the balance appear. The tokens never went anywhere; the app simply was not looking at that chain.
Why can a wallet not see them?
A wallet app is a viewer, not a vault. Your coins live on the blockchain, and the app asks one network at a time what your address holds. An app built for Ethereum only asks Ethereum, so BEP-20 tokens sitting on BNB Smart Chain are invisible to it - like having two bank accounts and only one of them showing in the banking app. Paste your address into bscscan.com and you will see the balance that your wallet is not showing.
The recovery steps
If your wallet lets you add a custom network, add BNB Smart Chain and you are done. If it does not, install MetaMask or Trust Wallet and import the same account with its recovery phrase or private key - importing copies access, it does not move funds, and the old app keeps working. Then switch the network to BNB Smart Chain. If the token still does not show, add it manually: find the token on BscScan, copy its contract address, and paste it into the wallet's "add token" box. Last, buy or transfer a small amount of BNB to that address, because every transfer on this chain costs a few cents of BNB in fees and you cannot move anything without it.
What to be careful about
Type the wallet's web address by hand rather than following a search advert, and only ever enter your recovery phrase into the wallet app itself. A phrase typed into a support chat, a form or a "validation" page is gone, along with everything the key controls. Hardware wallets like Ledger handle BNB Smart Chain too, so the key never has to touch a laptop at all.
Once the tokens are visible, send them where they belong and keep a few dollars of BNB in that address for future fees. Next: the full wrong-chain recovery picture and what to do when the address is not yours.
