Glassnode vs CryptoQuant vs Nansen: Which On-Chain Data Platform Fits You?

The split is simpler than the marketing makes it look. Glassnode and CryptoQuant measure whole markets - all of Bitcoin or Ethereum treated as one pool of coins. Nansen zooms in on individual wallets and what they are doing right now. So the question is not which is best, it is whether you want the weather report or the movements of one particular car.

What do Glassnode and CryptoQuant measure?

Aggregates. How much Bitcoin sits on exchanges, how much has not moved in over a year, how many coins are held at a paper profit, what miners are doing with theirs. Nobody can read that off a price chart, which is the whole point. In practice CryptoQuant leans toward exchange flows and miner activity, while Glassnode leans toward deep historical series and the research written around them. They overlap heavily, and most people end up preferring one house style over the other rather than one dataset.

Where Nansen is different

It works address by address. Instead of "coins are leaving exchanges", it tells you that a specific wallet it has labelled as a successful trader bought a particular token on Solana an hour ago. That is useful when your question is about one token or one protocol. It is close to useless when your question is "how is the Bitcoin market positioned", because a handful of wallets is not a market.

Which fits you?

  • You hold Bitcoin and think in months - Glassnode or CryptoQuant. The aggregates were built for exactly this.
  • You trade newer tokens on Ethereum or Solana - Nansen, because wallet labels are where the edge is claimed to be.
  • You are just curious - start with the free tiers of all three. Each shows enough to tell you whether the paid version would change a single decision you make.

A warning that applies to all three: a metric you cannot explain in one sentence is a metric you should not trade on. Open one chart, read what it counts, and only then decide whether it tells you anything you did not already know. From here, what Nansen on-chain analytics is, and the three-way comparison in Dune vs Nansen vs Arkham.
