🔷Vitalik Buterin has warned that Ethereum must transition to quantum-resistant cryptography within the next four years, as advances in quantum computing could eventually compromise elliptic-curve–based security. According to Buterin, developers have until the 2028 U.S. elections to coordinate the shift and safeguard the network against potential quantum-level attacks.
🔷He also advocates “ossifying” Ethereum’s L1 — keeping the base layer as stable as possible — while pushing innovation to the ecosystem’s L2 environment. This, he argues, reduces the risk of critical protocol-level errors while allowing continuous evolution through rollups, applications, and privacy tools even if the underlying protocol stops undergoing large-scale upgrades.
