Strategy Buys 1,665 BTC at $85,681 and Repurchases $152M of STRC

Strategy bought 1,665 bitcoin last week at an average of $85,681 a coin and disclosed it on Monday morning. The purchase cost about $142.7 million. It takes the company's holdings to 847,666 BTC. In the same week it repurchased 1,534,530 shares of its STRC preferred stock for around $151.7 million. The buying window ran from 21 to 27 September, which puts the average paid above where bitcoin traded on Monday.

What the company put its name to

Strategy's own press page carries the line "Strategy Acquires 1,665 BTC and Repurchases $152 Million of STRC" and is dated 28 September. That is the primary record, and it settles the two numbers the story turns on. Everything below them comes from the outlets. The Block published at 8:11 a.m. Eastern, Bitcoin.com News at the same hour and Cointelegraph at 12:38 UTC; the three agree on the purchase, the average price and the cost basis. The Form 8-K that the press page links to did not render when we tried it on Monday, so nothing here rests on the filing text.

Michael Saylor put the week in one line.

"Strategy has acquired 1,665 BTC and repurchased $152M of STRC. As of 9/27/26, we hold 847,666 BTC and $6.02B of USD Assets," Saylor wrote, in a post carried by Bitcoin.com News.

Two accounts of where the money came from

The funding breakdowns do not agree. The Block writes that "the latest acquisitions were made using $103.5 million in MSTR sales and $48.1 million of the company's USD Cash reserve," a pair that sums to $151.6 million and lines up with the STRC buyback, not with the $142.7 million of bitcoin. Bitcoin.com News and Cointelegraph split the same figures the other way. On their reading, common-share sales raised $246.2 million in net proceeds, of which $142.7 million went to bitcoin and $103.5 million to STRC, with $48.1 million of existing cash also going to the buyback. Two of the three outlets take that second version and its arithmetic closes. We could not establish which account supersedes the other.

The cost basis, and what sits above it

Strategy carries its 847,666 BTC at an aggregate cost of about $63.95 billion, an average of $75,437 a coin including fees and expenses. Last week's average sits roughly $10,000 above that. The holding is more than 4% of bitcoin's 21 million supply cap, on The Block's count. The same outlet puts the paper gain near $6.6 billion against a holdings value of about $70.6 billion; no other piece in this sweep carries either number, and both move with the price, so treat them as one outlet's snapshot.

On the cash side the accounts converge. Cointelegraph and Bitcoin.com News both give $6.02 billion of USD assets as of 27 September, $5.02 billion of it reserved for preferred dividends and debt interest and $1 billion free for treasury use. That reserve has been the company's stated cushion since it stopped buying bitcoin and built a $3 billion dollar reserve earlier in the year. Cointelegraph tracks it down $20 million on the week.

Two weeks of buying after two weeks of none

The week before, Strategy took 950 BTC for about $75.7 million and repurchased $174 million of STRC, with its own press page confirming both. That purchase followed a two-week pause. What the September record shows, then, is a return to accumulation funded out of equity issuance, with preferred buybacks running alongside it. Holders vote on 28 October on moving four preferred classes to daily dividends. Bitcoin.com News puts $723.5 million of STRC repurchase authorization left and The Block puts $18.84 billion of MSTR issuance still available, each figure standing on one outlet.

Nothing in the disclosure sets a target for the quarter or says whether the pace holds. Strategy publishes these on Mondays. The next one is the test.
