Uptober Arrives in Four Days With Bitcoin Holding About $84,000

Bitcoin sat near $84,000 on Sunday, four days out from the month that traders have spent a decade calling Uptober. An Instagram post from the account @coin.space01, carrying artwork credited to The Coin Republic, put the countdown at five days and told followers a bull market is coming soon. The post went up on 26 September, and by Sunday the gap to 1 October had closed to four. Its single slide stacked Bitcoin and Ethereum beside Solana, XRP, Dogecoin, Cardano, BNB, Polygon and Chainlink, the usual shorthand for a quarter in which everything rises together. The seasonal record behind the nickname is real. It is also thinner than the artwork suggests.

What the seasonal record shows

Two tallies of October's history were in circulation this month and they do not agree. Benzinga, writing on 25 September, put October's average Bitcoin return at 19.92% and the median at 14.71%, with 10 of the past 13 Octobers finishing green. A CryptoSlate seasonality study published in March used a ten-year sample and landed lower, at a mean of 17.8%, a median of 12.7% and an 80% win rate. The samples are different lengths, so the two sets of figures do not reconcile, and neither is wrong on its own terms. What both establish is direction rather than size.

Last October broke the pattern

The most recent October is the one the seasonal case has to answer for. Bitcoin closed October 2025 lower, its first red October since 2018, and the quarter around it finished down 23.1%, the second-worst fourth quarter in the series. The two years before ran the other way, with Q4 2023 up 57% and Q4 2024 up 48%. The pattern held twice, then failed badly, inside three years. Thirteen observations is a small base. One break moves the average a long way.

Where the price sits going in

Bitcoin traded around $84,000 through the weekend after a quarter that added roughly 43.5%, up from about $58,500 at the start of July, on a Sunday market note from UseTheBitcoin. August closed up 24.95% and September was running about 7.3% higher as of 25 September, by Benzinga's count. Six days earlier 24/7 Wall St. had the month at 2.7%, with Bitcoin at $81,214; the price rose between the two readings, which accounts for most of the gap. The level has been contested for a fortnight. Bitcoin's previous drop under the same figure arrived alongside a 10-year Treasury yield at a 2007 high.

"Bitcoin needs to clear $84,700 before any real continuation takes hold," Michaël van de Poppe wrote in comments carried by Benzinga on 25 September.

Applied to a spot price of $84,123, those seasonal figures produce arithmetic, not forecasts. Benzinga reached roughly $96,800 on October's median and about $101,200 on its average. Resistance sits at $85,000 to $85,800 and again near $87,200, with support at $81,400. The trader Ali Martinez said whales added about 30,269 BTC, close to $2.57 billion, over 96 hours to 25 September. We could not find a second source for that accumulation figure by publication time, and it stands unverified. Institutional demand is the other leg the seasonal case leans on, and spot Bitcoin ETF flows turned positive for 2026 this month after a $2.84 billion six-day run.

Four days to the monthly close

Thursday brings the monthly and quarterly close, which is the nearer marker. A green October would be the eleventh in 14 years on Benzinga's count. A red one would be the second in a row, and the series has never produced that. The post's forecast of a coming bull market carries no level and no date, so nothing in it can be checked against a chart. Seasonality gives odds. It does not give outcomes.
