Video Calls No Longer a Safe Verification Method

🟦Binance founder Changpeng Zhao has warned of the growing threat of deepfake attacks, emphasizing that even video calls can no longer be considered a reliable method for verifying identity. His statement followed an incident involving analyst Mai Fujimoto, who lost access to her accounts after a fake Zoom call featuring a forged image of a familiar person.

🟦Fujimoto fell victim to an attack that began with the hacking of her friend’s Telegram account. During a 10-minute call, the attackers, posing as tech support, installed malware on her device. The incident highlights how dangerous modern AI-powered social engineering tactics have become and underscores the need for heightened digital vigilance.
