The First Apple Mac Computers with M3 Chip Could Arrive in October

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the first series of Apple Mac computers equipped with the M3 chip may be released as early as October. In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman writes that after the annual September event focused on the iPhone, “there should be another launch,” and the spotlight will likely be on a new lineup of Mac computers. “October is too early for new high-performance MacBook Pros or PCs, so the first models to feature the new chip will likely be the next iMacs, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro,” he notes.

In early March, Gurman reported that Apple was in the “final stage” of developing two new iMac models that would feature the next-generation M3 chip. The new chipset will likely not have more CPU and GPU cores than the current M2 SoC, but it is expected to deliver a significant performance and energy efficiency boost thanks to TSMC’s 3nm process. Gurman also predicted that the new iMac could launch in the second half of 2023, and it will feature the same bright design as the 2021 model. Recently, he mentioned that Apple is also working on a new 32-inch iMac, but he warned that this model would not appear until the end of 2024 at the earliest.

Apple typically announces new iPad models alongside new Mac models, but it seems that won’t happen this time. “I wouldn’t expect any major updates until next year’s iPad Pros with M3 chips and OLED displays,” writes Gurman. However, he notes that Apple is working on a new iPad Air with updated internal components. The current model is equipped with the outdated M1 chipset.
