Flying Taxis in Dubai Could Launch as Early as 2026

Could flying taxis become the new way of getting around the city? Dubai is aiming for this to happen by 2026.

The Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, announced the approval of new aerotaxi station projects across the city. Confirming Dubai’s commitment to the “flying taxi” program, he stated that the services would be operational within three years.

In a promotional video shared by the city’s ruler on Twitter, an electric flying taxi with six rotors, manufactured by Joby Aviation, was showcased.

In the video, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) stated that it is partnering with leading companies in advanced air mobility technology, Skyports Infrastructure and Joby Aviation.

“We are excited about this opportunity and are actively exploring it,” said Oliver Walker-Jones, a spokesperson for Joby Aviation.

The company’s plans include vertical take-offs and landings with zero operational emissions.
