Two Women Have Filed a Lawsuit Against Apple, Claiming They Were Tracked Using AirTags

CNN reported that Apple is facing a lawsuit from two women who claim that their former partners used AirTags, the smart tracking devices, to spy on them.

The class-action lawsuit was filed in federal court in San Francisco on behalf of one woman from Texas and another from New York. They are seeking monetary compensation, the amount of which has not been disclosed.

One of the women said that her ex-boyfriend allegedly placed an AirTag (a small tracking device just over 3.5 centimeters in size, designed to help find lost items) on the tire of her car. The other woman stated that her ex-husband tracked her movements by attaching an AirTag to their child’s backpack.

Apple did not immediately comment on the lawsuit. However, the company stated that the smart tags include anti-stalking features, such as notifications sent to the phone when a foreign device is detected nearby for an extended period.

The lawsuit claims that these safeguards are insufficient and do not provide timely alerts to people being tracked. The women added that they filed the lawsuit on behalf of those “who have been or are at risk of being stalked with this dangerous device.”
