Ether Falls Short of the $2,450 Weekly Close Analysts Flagged

Ether went into the weekly candle close at 00:00 UTC on Monday sitting on a line the market had spent the weekend arguing about. Analysts had made $2,450 the gate: a close above it read as confirmation of the breakout, a close below it as a ceiling. Every price snapshot taken in the hours around the close put ether between $2,426 and $2,446. The close came in short. Bitcoin, for its part, opened the new week almost exactly where it ended the old one, near $77,167.
The level everyone was watching
Two analysts had drawn the same line in slightly different places over the weekend. Ted Pillows, in a Coingape piece dated 21 August, put the pivot at $2,450 and tied it straight to the next target.
"A weekly close above this zone could pump Ethereum to $3,000," Pillows wrote on 21 August.
Kosta Gushterov, writing for Coindoo a day later, set his decisive level a touch higher, at $2,465, and framed a failure there as firm overhead resistance. The two do not name the same number, but they agree on the shape. Clear the zone on a weekly close, and the breakout has room; fail it, and the rally stalls. Ether spent the weekend a few dollars under either figure.
Where the close actually landed
Pinning the exact close is harder than it sounds. No outlet this desk checked published a clean 00:00 UTC print for the weekly candle. What the snapshots show is a band. A COINOTAG market box timestamped 20:24 UTC on Sunday had ether at $2,445 to $2,446, with a 24-hour range of $2,355.71 to $2,484.06 and the daily RSI, a momentum gauge that runs hot above 70, at 78.6. Pickaxe's Sunday read put it lower, at $2,426.24. By Monday morning a market digest had it at $2,435.25, up about 1.2% on the day. Every one of those readings sits below $2,450. So the direction is not in doubt even if the precise close is: ether ended the week short of the level, and the breakout signal Pillows and Gushterov flagged did not trigger.
A quiet Monday after a loud week
The calm is the notable part. This is the same asset that swung from a $2,550 rejection to a $2,390 low inside the weekend, and the same market that watched bitcoin fall toward $75,500 on Saturday before the dip got bought back above $77,000. Monday brought none of it. Bitcoin held near $77,167, off a fraction on the day, with dominance around 56.6%. The Fear and Greed index, a 0-to-100 sentiment reading, sat at 73 on Monday, up from 66 on Sunday and well inside "greed." Ether's four-day run to a four-month high the week before had already delivered most of the move. The weekend was digestion. One caveat: the Monday prices and the 73 reading come from a single aggregator digest, so the exact figures deserve a second check even though the calm does not.
What carries into the new week is the question the weekend never answered. Ether needs a weekly close above $2,450 to turn the level from resistance into a floor, and it did not get one. The next candle does not close until the following Sunday into Monday. Until then the $3,000 case stays where Pillows left it, one clean weekly close away and no closer. Bitcoin's own weekly gain of roughly 22%, its biggest in two years, gives the tape a strong back. Ether has the harder line to clear.
