What Is Solscan and How to Read It?

Solscan is the most widely used block explorer for Solana: a free website that turns the blockchain's raw record into readable pages. Paste in a wallet address, a transaction signature or a token and it shows you the history. It is read-only - a window, not a wallet. Solscan cannot move your coins, and it never needs anything from you but a public address. Reading it is mostly a matter of knowing which page you are on.

What is all that on the front page?

The homepage is a dashboard for the whole network, and you can ignore most of it. Two numbers are worth knowing. Current epoch is Solana's unit of time: roughly two days, 432,000 slots, and the clock that staking rewards run on. TPS is transactions per second, which is how Solana advertises itself - several thousand, against Bitcoin's handful. Below that sits a live feed of transactions, which is oddly calming and almost never useful.

How do you read an account page?

This is the page you will actually use. SOL Balance is the native coin. Token Accounts lists everything else the wallet holds, each token in its own little sub-account - that is a quirk of Solana, and it is why a wallet with ten tokens has eleven accounts behind it. The tabs below split the history: Transactions for every signature, Transfers for just the money moving, Defi Activities for swaps on Jupiter, Raydium or Orca. Click any address anywhere and you land on its page, which is how you follow funds from hop to hop.

What do the labels mean, and what are the fakes?

Known accounts carry a tag - an exchange, a protocol, a bridge - added by Solscan's team, so the absence of a tag means nothing either way. A token page showing a verified mark, real volume and thousands of holders is a different proposition from one with forty holders and the same name as a famous coin. The fakes to watch for are not on Solscan at all: they are copycat sites a letter or two off the real address, built to collect wallet connections. Type the address yourself or use the link in your wallet, and never connect a wallet to an explorer - a real one has nothing to connect to.

Start by looking up your own wallet and reading your last three transactions until the layout stops feeling foreign. Next: how to track Solana transactions on Solscan and the stake account page.
